About the Ten Standards

The State of Maine's Ten Initial Teacher Certification Standards provide a professional framework for emerging teachers as they enter the field of education. Captured within this framework are the skills that all teachers should possess as well as personal attributes that they should embody.  It is expected that teachers will continue to develop within and beyond these basic standards with time and experience. 


This portfolio will explain each of the ten standards and provide artifacts that serve to demonstrate both my understanding and professional application of the standard. At the menu to the left, you will find the ten standards listed individually.  You may click on the link to the standard that you wish to review and will be brought to that standard's respective page.

Integrated curriculum is a must in this day and age of big educational goals and short school days. Efficient teachers create many cross-curricular lessons so they can teach multiple subjects in a single lesson.

One of the hallmarks of an effective teacher is classroom management. Without it, very little teaching or learning can happen!

Instructional strategies include varying ways to convey information to all students. Field trips are a great opportunity for all students at all levels to participate on equal terms!
